Dorothy Rests in Peace

Dorothy is an American rock band hailing from Los Angeles, California, that consists of Hungarian born vocalist Dorothy Martin, drummer Jason Ganberg, guitarists Devon Pangle and Eli Wulfmeier, and bassist Eliot Lorango. Formed in 2013 Dorothy’s heavy metal bluesy sound combined with the angelic voice of lead singer Dorothy Martin makes this a band to keep your eye on. This spring marks the release of Dorothy’s third in studio LP titled “Gifts from the Holy Ghost” an album that lead singer Dorothy Martin describes as a raw and real look into her life and thoughts.

“I think this album is going to speak to a lot of people, it’s meant to be healing, unifying, eye-opening, ear-opening, heart-opening and celebratory,” says Dorothy, adding: “I wanted to make the realest album I could make, and I went in with the question does this make me feel alive? Does it make me feel free? If a song didn’t give me chills or make my heart soar, then it didn’t make the cut.” says Martin

Dorothy Martin is a special woman to say the least, her voice is so powerful and simultaneously gentle. Her realness is transparent and her soul is on the line with every note she sings especially with the newest single “Rest in Peace” a powerful song that transcends music and sends an arrow straight to the heart. What an amazing song, the structure is so beautiful. There is a part at the end where she doubles down on the vocals and it repeats Rest in Peace, Rest in Peace, Rest in Peace. It truly sends chills down my spine and the beauty of the song melts my heart and takes the listener to another place out of this world.

“The song sounds like a breakup song, but for me it’s about everyone having their own struggles and whatever your demons look like and for me I am confronting my demons.  I am talking to the demons I have, and the song is open for interpretation for the listener, you as a consumer can absorb the song how you want but I am talking to my alcoholism in that song. I am glad we came out with this song as our first single because we are coming out swinging.”

Dorothy has always been an instinctual writer and artist. Throughout her life, she’s been asking the big questions, both in and outside her art: ‘What’s the meaning of life? Why are we here? How are we here?’ When she couldn’t find the answers to those questions, she’d numb out the empty uncertainty with drugs and alcohol. She was eventually admitted to rehab and a new chapter was opened in her spiritual journey.
